Will you ever notice me...

REFLECTION :)

Reflecting on my poem, I found that writing a poem was actually quite tough. I had to find the right words to describe the oil spill and to evoke feelings in the readers. Other than that, I also had to use the appropriate poetic devices at the right places. For example, I used imagery to enhance the devastating effects of the oil spill. Through this, I hope to let the reader paint a vivid picture of what had happened.

I spent some time writing my first draft and found that it was quite hard. I surfed the web for some ideas to write, but I still did not have any ideas. However, inspiration struck when I looked at some pictures of oil spills.

After letting my friends read through my draft and comment on it, I then started to make some changes to the poem. I used my friends' comments and changed parts of it. For example, there was a stanza which described about dark skies and black clouds. I wanted it to seem like something bad was happening, but it sort of had another effect. Hence, I made some changes and was quite pleased with the overall result.

From this experience, I learnt that poetry is not just about writing in a fancy way to describe things, but is actually an effective way for us to express our feelings through words. It was really interesting to write a poem and I hope that my poetry skills would improve after writing more poems.
